Lazy Days

Plenty of School Events to Enjoy
Stateside was not all hospital rooms and chemo treatments (although there were plenty of those too). Our church in Port Charlotte is alos home to a school, Community Christian School. The school allowed our boys to attend the school for the duration of our stateside! It was an amazing gift for both the boys and this weary homeschool mom. It made our stateside look and feel different than any other we have experienced.

First of all, we had to stay in town the majority of the time due to the school schedule. This limit on travel really made us take some much needed down time. It meant a normal routine for the boys, quality time for me and Grant, and some quiet time for my mom each day as she went through chemo. Also, Malachi enjoyed being the only child eight hours each day!

Actual Cold Weather!!
Our afternoons and weekends were spent swimming, fishing, learning new hobbies, and just enjoying each other. Holidays were so much fun! Although fall and winter in south Florida is not that much different than what we experience in Madagascar, it was so much fun to be surrounded by fun decorations, activities and parties. It also helps that my parents are holiday nuts – who go all out to decorate and make the event a blast for everyone. It is great to give the kids some memories of things we experienced as we grew up.

We were also able to make a trip to Raleigh after a conference in Virginia. This is always one of the highlights during our stateside time. Our home church, Southbridge Fellowship, has traveled this journey with us from day one. They have labored, prayed, laughed and cried alongside us. And they, too, have been a part of what God has done among the Mahafaly people. We value the time we get to spend with these precious friends and co-laborers both in Madagascar and on their home turf!
