11 Villages in 3 days

Grant just got back from a three day adventure, traveling around northern Mahafaly land. He visited most of the villages that he has begun developing relationships with. His next trip will be a BIG one, as he will be sharing the storying set that he has been working so hard on translating/memorizing with the village of Besatra. It will take about 4 days to go through the story set, with an invitation at the end. The village is VERY excited about hearing the stories from the Bible. Grant used this trip to finalize details for the event, as well as visit some of the villages he has not seen for a while.

This trip was especially hard for him, as we are getting deep into the dry season here, and the people are really suffering. He talked to one man who has three wives and 30 children - yes 30! 8 from one wife, 12 from another, and 10 from another. He said that they were starving, as there is not enough land to feed them.

Hmmm...and the movie 2012! It is like a phenomenon here in Madagascar...EVERYONE has seen or heard about it. And it seems like most people believe the film. Lots of people come to Grant in Tulear asking if the world is coming to an end in 2012. Well, apparently the news has made it out to the bush, as Grant was asked this question again while he was in a village. I think we are going to have to watch this movie!

Here are a few pics from the trip: The picture that looks like a stick is what they have been eating in the south, Grant said it was a type of root...but it looks like a piece of wood to me. Grant drove through a riverbed to see how the river was doing...he finally arrived at the "river" where the cows were drinking. Another is a picture of Chris, Grant's friend, cooking a chicken for them for dinner, and the last is a picture of Eli hanging out at the beach this week.
