ST4T

This week, a team of missionaries came to lead a class for Malagasy Christians on ST4T. This training is great for places where illiteracy is high or people do not have the Bible in their language. It is an oral method of teaching the Bible, and works great in societies that rely heavily on oral traditions.

The team spent the week modeling a ST4T class. They would tell the class a story from the Bible, ask several questions about the story, and then do exercises to help the class remember the story. The Malagasy loved the class, and really got into the teaching. They interacted well, and loved to retell the stories. At the end of class each day they were teamed up, and sent out to practice telling the story. The next day they would tell about their experience in sharing the story. One of the most important aspects of the ST4T is to teach others!

One of the most exciting things that the team saw from the class was the reaction from the ladies attending. This type of teaching style really seemed applicable to them. In a society where it is uncommon for women to have theological training or even be able to read, this method of evangelism makes them feel capable and excited to share God's word!

I was excited that the training came when it did, as this morning I started a Bible study using the ST4T method. Our first day went great, and I am excited to see how it progresses over the next few weeks!

Grant and the team left this morning for a LONG trip. They are starting off in Mahafaly territory and heading south for Ft. Dauphin. Pray for them, as a cyclone is going through Madagascar. That will make the very tough roads, just that more difficult for them!! They are sure to come back with some fun stories!

That is really neat! We have recently been hearing about this method of evangelism from family of friends who are missionaries in Africa. They are with Background Mission Partners and they use the same storytelling methods. Awesome!
