Masai Mara Part I

Our time in Kenya is coming to a close! We had an amazing experience to top off our time in this beautiful country. As I can only post 5 pics per BLOG entry, I am going to divide this into parts.

Saturday morning (6AM) we headed off for Masai Mara, the best game reserve in Kenya. We shared our journey with another couple, who were also finishing up classes with Grant. We drove the 4 hours in a small safari van (with a lift roof), and were so excited to drive across the beautiful Rift Valley. We didn't have to wait to get to the game park to see zebra, giraffes, and even gazelle. The road was long and rough, but the vast savannah entertained us the whole way!

Upon arrival we checked into our lodging for the night. We stayed in a luxury tent camp, nestled in a thick forest of greenery. since there was no electric fence, animals (of any sort!) were free to pass by during our stay. Just walking from the car to the tent was an adventure. Some of the animals we saw regularly were monkeys, baboons, and gazelle.

Our tent was amazing! It had hard wood floors, and was lifted up on stilts. Attached was a porch that overlooked a running creek. It couldn't have been more amazing. The room itself was nicer than any hotel I had ever stayed in- it was great!

After getting settled in, we headed to the pool to cool off. The setting was so thrilling, and I was expecting a lion to jump out at us at any minute. The only drawback was the massive amounts of flies. Our only escape was to hide under our towels...no working on our tans that day!
