Yummy Octopus

Grant just returned from his 5 day trip to the Mahafaly people. He was able to make the long drive (7 hrs from here) to the Mahafaly that live along the coast. Along the way he met 3 new villages, and was received well by all.

This trip proved to be physically tough on Grant as he was faced with hot days, long nights, and limited access to water (he didn't bathe for 3 days straight!). He was also fed some very interesting cuisine: Octopus, squid, goat, and turtle. Despite all of the hardships, he had a great experience and was able to continue building relationships among the Mahafaly.

During one of his overnight stays in a coastal village, Grant made a new friend. This little boy's dad is the pastor of a small church in their village. As Grant spent time with this family, the little boy was attached to Grant 24/7. He faithfully followed him around everywhere he went.

This family of 5, lives in a tiny hut, with barely enough to survive. The children are content to play with their one shared toy (a rope attached to a tree). Despite their poverty, they faithfully serve God with joyful hearts. We are so caught up in the materialistic part of Christmas, that we often forget the true reason we celebrate. But these people, who have no distractions of gifts, fancy meals, and festive parties will not forget. They will not forget the true reason to celebrate - the remembrance of a savior who came to die for us and will return again! What distractions keep you from worshipping our Christ during this season?
