Creation to Christ
Our last visit to Mtendere was very fruitful. The widow that was not home the day we visited during the funeral requested that we return and share Jesus with her. We were excited to share the Creation to Christ story with an open non believer. When we arrived, all of the ladies that were there the first time were still there. Although they had put a few pieces of furniture inside they were still laying on the floor and on mattresses. There were 9 ladies and a few children. Deb, Katie, and I shared the story for about an hour. We did a good job and it seemed to flow well, but I was still really nervous. The ladies were attentive and interested. After telling the story all nine ladies prayed to receive Christ. In my American mind it was difficult to trust that all 9 had made a personal decision. We have been taught that it is common for Africans to except Christ in groups. Today was a great example. I asked Loveness afterward if she truly felt the ladies had accepted Christ in their hearts. She felt strongly that they had. Many of the ladies there were "Baptist" church attenders, but had never heard the "whole" story. Creation to Christ is an amazing method for reaching Africans. I didn't understand why or how until we were actually using it with Africans!
After we left the ladies (with a promise from Loveness to follow up in discipleship) we went to the market and shared the readers digest version of Creation to Christ with 2 men. Both men prayed to receive Christ. It was difficult to tell if they really understood and believed or if they were trying to appease us. Either way, a seed was planted and Loveness will follow up with them. It was a great day to see how all we have learned can reach people for Christ. If we had not learned all of these cultural differences before witnessing, 11 people may not have come to Christ today!
